What am I getting?

The most basic physical reward is a softcover print-on-demand book, which will be sent to you from DriveThruRPG. Higher pledge levels include signed copies of the book, or a copy of the 2002 original Starchildren: Velvet Generation.

We’re also making a hardcover format of the new book available, for an upgrade price of $10 USD. The book came out quite a bit bigger than we expected, so the hardcover looks really nice, but we’re keeping softcover as a more affordable option.

Why am I being charged for shipping?

It was a while ago, but our Kickstarter campaign specified that shipping would be charged when it was time to ship orders out. At the time, we didn’t know exactly what shipping costs would be, based on the final weights of books and other details, so we opted to put that off until we knew more. Thanks for understanding.

...OK, but my shipping is like $100 USD. What gives?

If you’re being charged that much, it means something about your pledge is misconfigured on our end. Don’t check out, but get in touch with us through support and we’ll fix it before you get charged.

My pledge also included a PDF; is that included here?

You should have already received a download link to your PDF from DriveThruRPG, at whatever email address is associated with your Kickstarter account, or at the one you provided us, if any. If you can’t find it after searching your email, reach out to us and we’ll figure out how to get it to you.

Can I order extra copies?

You can order extra copies of Velvet Generation in print or PDF at our DriveThruRPG storefront: https://www.drivethrurpg.com/browse/pub/12688/XIG-Games.

We aren’t handling add-on books through BackerKit because they’ll be available for sale there as soon as your Kickstarter rewards start going out.

What's this about stickers?

A lot of pledge levels included a pack of three Velvet Generation stickers. These will be shipped to you from us in batches. If you’re already getting an autographed book or a copy of Starchildren, the stickers will be in there.

If you’re only getting an unsigned print-on-demand book, we’re giving you the option of skipping the stickers in case you want to save some money on shipping something that’s free. You can still get stickers from us at any of the summer/fall conventions we’ll be at.

I backed the Kickstarter but I can't afford shipping costs now. What can I do?

We get that financial times are tough for a lot of us these days. If paying for shipping is a big obstacle to you getting the backer rewards you already paid for, reach out to us through support and we’ll see what we can do to help. Can’t make any big promises, but we also don’t want you to go without your books, so we’ll at least try.

BackerKit FAQ

What is BackerKit?

BackerKit is a service that crowdfunded project creators use to keep track of hundreds to tens of thousands of backers—from shipping details, pledge levels, preferences and quantities, whether they have paid or had their card declined, special notes, and everything in between!

The BackerKit software and support team is independent from the campaign’s project team—BackerKit does not handle the actual reward shipping. For more information about the preparation or delivery status of your rewards, please check the project's updates page.

How does BackerKit work?

After the campaign ends, the project creator will send you an email with a unique link to your survey. You can check out a walkthrough of the process here.

I never received my invitation. How do I complete the survey?

The most common reasons for not receiving a survey email is that you may be checking an email inbox different from the email address you used to sign up with Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account, or it may be caught in your spam filter.

Confirm that the email address you are searching matches the email address tied to your Kickstarter, Indiegogo, or Tilt Pro account. If that doesn’t work, then try checking your spam, junk or promotions folders. You can also search for "backerkit” in your inbox.

To resend the survey to yourself, visit the project page and input the email address associated with your Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account.

How do I update my shipping address?

BackerKit allows you to update your shipping address until the shipping addresses are locked by the project creator. To update your address, go back to your BackerKit survey by inputting your email here.

When will my order be shipped, charged or locked?

That is handled directly by the project creator. BackerKit functions independently of the project itself, so we do not have control of their physical shipping timeline. If you want to check on the project’s status, we recommend reading over the project's updates page.

I completed the survey, but haven't received my rewards yet. When will they arrive?

As BackerKit does not actually handle any rewards or shipping, the best way to stay updated on the shipping timeline would be to check out the project's updates page.
